Bakers Game

Bakers Game 1

Category : Free Cell
Type : 1 Deck
Luck : Skill
Difficulty : Hard
Time : Medium

Identical to FreeCell except the Tableau builds down by rank AND suit instead of opposite colors.

– 8 Tableau Stacks – build down in suit.

– 4 Foundations at top right – build up from Ace to King in suit.

– 4 Free Cells at top left – can contain any one card.

Cards in the Tableau can be moved to a Foundation or onto another Tableau stack or Free Cell. The Tableau builds down in suit, so a 5 of Clubs can only go on a 6 of Clubs. You can only move 1 card at a time; however, ordered piles can move so long as there are enough free cells or empty piles available. An emptied stack can be filled with any card.

Move all cards to the Foundations to win.

Tips & Strategies:

Empty piles are extremely important.  The game starts you out with four Reserve piles, which is not much.  Be cautious when using these.  You should only use a Reserve if you already know how to get that card out of the Reserve again, but you will not always be able to do that.  In these cases, it might help to take a screenshot of the layout in case you never find a way to remove the card and have to go back to that specific move.  Empty Tableau piles are similar to Reserve piles, except more favorable and helpful in Bakers Game.  The Tableau allows building, but the Reserves do not.  Keep your Reserve piles open by moving multiple sequenced cards from the Reserve into an empty Tableau pile.

How the game got it’s name:

This game is named after the mathematician C. L. Baker.  This game was taught to Baker by his father, who in turn learned it from an Englishman during the 1920’s.
